Philip Harris
Professional MemberPhilip is a Registered Trade Mark Attorney, a Certified Trade Mark & Design Litigator and a solicitor. He has worked in-house, in firms of solicitors and since 1996 he has been a Trade Mark Partner in Gill Jennings & Every LLP, a London-based firm of European Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys. Although he handles all aspects of trade mark work. Philip specialises in complex contentious matters, in particular opposition and cancellation work before UKIPO and OHIM.
Before joining IPREG Philip held numerous posts in ITMA culminating in the Presidency from 2006-8. Co-opted to Council in 1996 he prepared the report which led to the Institute’s introduction of CPD. Subsequently he restructured the Institute’s disciplinary rules and practices. First as Vice President and then as President, he took a lead role in responding to the Clementi Review and in developing the Institute’s response to and policy concerning what became the Legal Services Act 2007, including the original design of IPREG. During the passage of the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 Philip and Mike Harrison, the then CIPA President, worked closely together to secure the extension of judicial eligibility to Registered Trade Mark and Patent Attorneys. Philip also instigated reforms of the Institute’s Litigation Regulation and qualification regime.
He lives with his family in Lincolnshire where, as an antidote to the calm of the countryside, he plays bass guitar, mandolin and banjo in a Celitic rock group.
